PHP 4 was released on 22nd May 2000. It is powered by the Zend Engine 1.0.
The Zend engine was written by Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski who later founded Zend Technologies in Ramat Gan, Israel.
PHP is presently the world’s most popular server-side language used on several well-known web applications including the blogging platform, WordPress. It was created in 1995 by Rasmus Lerdorf.
