Why is the fourth of May Star Wars Day?
It’s a pun on “May the Force be with you”… did you get it? Not yet?
OK – “May the Fourth be with you”.

The day is observed by Star Wars fans around the globe. Disney who had bought Lucasfilm in 2012 now celebrate the day in a big way at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The day was first celebrated in 2011 in Toronto at the Toronto Underground Cinema. It was produced by Sean Ward and Alice Quinn and included a Star Wars trivia game, costume contest amongst other events.

The first Star Wars movie was released on May 25, 1987. On its 30th anniversary, the Los Angeles City Council set aside this date as the “Star Wars Day”. Incidentally, the 25th of May is also the Geek Pride Day and the Towel Day (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).

However, for many fans, especially because of Disney’s promotional efforts, May 4th is the true Star Wars Day.
