First Annual Grammy Awards were held simultaneously at two places – Beverly Hilton Hotel (Beverly Hills, CA) and the Park Sheraton Hotel (New York City) on 4th May 1959.

  • Song of the Year and Record of the Year went to Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu (Volare) by Domenico Modugno.
  • Album of the Year award is awarded to Henry Mancini for The Music from Peter Gunn.
  • Tom Dooley by the The Kingston Trio wins the Best Country & Western Performance.
  • Ella Fitzgerald wins two awards – one for Best Jazz Performance (Individual) and the other for Best Vocal Performance Pop (Female).
  • Best Vocal Performance (Male) award goes to Perry Como for Catch a Falling Star.
  • Tequila by The Champs wins Best Rhythm & Blues Performance.
