If ads appear on your web site you can be sure it’s hosted on a free web hosting server. It might also be that someone’s hacked your web site but I rule that one out for the time being. (You can also read what should I do if my web site is hacked?).

Most companies offering free web space put ads on the hosted websites to recover their costs. This is permissible after all there are no free lunches in the world – there has to be a glitch somewhere. These advertisements can pertain to your web site or can be offensive in which case I am sure you want to get rid of these quickly.

What you need to do is buy a good web hosting package from a reliable web hosting company. You can research for web hosting companies on the web or if you want a quick solution, take a look at some of the web hosting companies that I have used and evaluated – List of web hosting companies.

Below is a example of free web hosting with advertisements. When I opened this site, the page not only displayed two ads on the top (refer the image – ads marked in red boxes) but the site also threw up two pop-ups ad windows which I closed quickly.

Free web hosting with ads

When you purchase web hosting from a professional and reliable company you will not only get a stable server to put up your web site but in most cases would also receive several features that were absent on the free web hosting server such as server-side language support, free software tools, databases, a lot of web storage space, a lot of bandwidth, a higher uptime guarantee, technical support etc.

Finally, if you have a business or a company web site hosted on a free host, I suggest you immediately purchase a proper hosting package. Free web hosting might be ok for personal web sites but it’s a big no-no for any commercial venture.
