The CD or Compact Disc, was released to the public in Germany on 17th August 1982. The first commercial CD was a recording of Chopin waltzes by Claudio Arrau. The artist was invited to the Philips plant in Langenhagen near Hannover and pressed the start button to initiate the event. The Compact Disc format was created jointly by Philips and Sony.
