Albert Claude died on 22 May, 1983

Belgian cell biologist and medical doctor who was the first to employ the electron microscope in the field of biology and the first to publish a detailed structure of the cell. He developed the cell fractionation technique through which he discovered several cell organelles including the ribosome. He was awarded the 1974 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine with Christian de Duve (discoverer of lysosome) and George Emil Palade.
