Fact

The layout of the popular QWERTY keyboard is actually not user-friendly. The keyboard was designed by Christopher Latham Sholes primarily to prevent jamming in typewriters during sessions of fast typing. Though in all modern operating systems, alternatives like the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard exist, they haven't been able to gain a substantial following. The Dvorak layout uses less finger motion which, as is claimed, results in faster typing speeds, lesser errors and decreased incidence of repetitive strain injuries. The Dvorak keyboard was designed, patented and promoted by August Dvorak and his brother-in-law, Dr. William Dealey.
