Austrian zoologist regarded as one of the founders of modern ethnology best known for discovering imprinting, a characteristic behaviour in some animal species wherein a new born animal forms an attachment for its caregiver. He was the co-winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
