August Dvorak was born on 5 May, 1894

It is claimed that this alternate keyboard layout results in faster typing speed, lesser errors and lower incidence of repetitive strain injuries because it requires less finger motion. These claims have, however, been challenged over the years.

Modern operating systems such as Windows, MacOS, Linux etc. provide the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard as an alternative to the common QWERTY layout, which incidentally, was developed to prevent primarily to prevent jamming in typewriters during fast typing sessions.
