Gregor Mendel died on 6 January, 1884

Austrian monk known as the "Father of genetics". He conducted breeding experiments with pea plants that lead to the development of the Mendelian laws of genetics. He also coined the terms "recessive" and "dominant" when referring to the traits passed down from parents to offspring. Mendel’s work remained largely unknown and was coincidentally discovered by three scientists working independently – Erich von Tschermak, Hugo de Vries and Carl Correns.
