Google claims 27 September as its birthday

Google claims 27 September as its birthday.

27 September, 1998

Google claims 27th September as its birthday. The popular search engine celebrated it for the first time in 1998. FYI, Google was incorporated on 2nd September 1998 and the launched its IPO on 19th August 2004.

Google’s name comes from the word “googol” which means 1 followed by one-hundred zeroes. The word was coined by 9-year old Milton Sirotta, the nephew of mathematician Edward Kasner. After brainstorming a name for their company, Larry Page and Sergey Brin decided on googol. Unfortunately, the dot-com was already taken so they registered google.com domain name on 15th September 1997.
