Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google as a company on 4th September 1998. The two students from Stanford University had developed a web search engine (a project of Larry Page) and had received a check for the initial funding in the name of “Google” even before the company was formed.
John Wainwright was Amazon's very first customer. He bought Douglas Hofstadter's "Fluid Concepts And Creative Analogies: Computer Models Of The Fundamental Mechanisms Of Thought" for $27.95.
