The first public broadcast by the recently launched satellite, Telstar, was made on 23rd July 1962. Telstar had been launched on the 10th of July the same year and the first test signal was sent the next day.

The TV program featured Walter Cronkite, an American journalist who was the anchorman for CBS Evening News for 19 years.
