Google’s Gmail was launched with great fanfare – all free email accounts had 1GB storage space which was hundreds of times more than what was offered by other popular email services esp. Hotmail and Yahoo.
Though the fight for providing the biggest storage has kind of ended with Yahoo Mail doling out unlimited storage space, Google has taken a steadier approach with the Infinity+ plan. I’m not sure if we will ever get unlimited storage on Gmail but you can be sure that it will keep increasing with time.

Gmail storage space – have you checked it today?
Now here is something strange. As per the gradual increase promised by Google, the storage space on the email account would have been close to 7.4 GB today. But it seems the Gmail home page is showing a much lower value – only 2.7GB!
However, logging at the account, my fears were laid to rest. I still have about 7.4 GB so I suppose the figure mentioned on the home page is indeed wrong. I also noticed that the ticker has stopped… maybe script stopped working. Though I don’t think that’s a possibility as I’m using Google’s own web browser (Chrome). Still kind of weird, isn’t it?
Update: Gmail storage space seems to have increased. As on 22nd December, 2009, it’s 7.4GB.
Maybe you get the 2.7GB if you’re a new signup?
Don’t think so. When I received your comment I check the Gmail homepage again today and now it shows 7.4GB! I suppose Google just keeps changing the the storage space as per availability.
