The world’s first communications satellite was launched on 18th December 1958. It was Project SCORE (Signal Communications by Orbiting Relay Equipment) and was launched from an Atlas rocket.
The first message transmitted from space to the public began with –
“This is the President of the United States speaking. Through the marvels of scientific advance, my voice is coming to you from a satellite…”
