The lander of NASA’s Viking 2 spacecraft landed on Mars on 3rd September 1976. It touched down at Utopia Planitia on the planet and immediately started taking pictures. Viking 2 sent a total of close to 16,000 images till 11th April 1980 when its batteries ran out.
