The first successful launch of the V2/A4 rocket took place on 3rd October 1942 from Test Stand VII at Peenemünde, Germany. On 20th June 1944, the rocket crossed the Kármán line to become the first man-made object to enter space.
The Vergeltungswaffe 2 (Retribution Weapon 2), technical name Aggregat 4 (A4), was developed in Germany during the Second World War as a vengeance weapon. The missile had a liquid propellant rocket engine.
