The German V2/A4 rocket became the first man-made object in space when it crossed the Kármán line on 20th June 1944. The Kármán line is at an altitude of 100km from sea level.
The missile was a developed as a vengeance weapon during the Second World War. The V2’s first successfully launch was on 3rd October 1942.
