The transistor was demonstrated for the first time at Bell Laboratories on 23rd December 1947. It had been developed a few days back and a patent was filed on 26th June 1948.
The transistor was invented by William Shockley, Walter Brattain and John Bardeen. All three were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.
