Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein was published for the first time on 11th March 1818. She had written the novel at the age of 18 and was 20 years old when it was first published. Mary was the wife of poet Percy Shelly. She wrote the story to win a friendly competition amongst Percy, Lord Byron, John Polidori and her as to who could produce the best horror story.
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is the story of Victor Frankenstein who creates a grotesque creature from parts of dead people. It has elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement.
