William Kennedy Dickson, a Scottish inventor, received a patent for the motion picture film on 7th January 1894. Dickson had been employed by Thomas Alva Edison and had also invented the Kinetoscope. He was also the first star and producer of the very first motion picture, Dickson Greeting, shown to a public audience.
