World's first text message sent.

3 December, 1992

The world’s first text message was sent on 3rd December 1992. Neil Papworth, a test engineer at the Sema Group, used a computer and the Vodafone network to send the message to the director of the company, Richard Jarvis. The message read “Merry Christmas”.
