Willard Libby died on 8 September, 1980

American physical chemist best known for developing and pioneering radioactive carbon dating technique which has helped tremendously in dating objects in palaeontology and archeology. For his work, Libby was awarded the 1960 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Carbon-14 isotope, discovered by Martin Kamen and Sam Ruben, forms the basis of radiocarbon dating.
