Intercapping is the practice of capitalising the first letter of each word in a compound word. It is done to emphasise the words that have been joined to form a compound word.
Intercapping is also known as CamelCase or mixedCase. Nowadays, it is used primarily on product/service names in the digital industry and for naming variables in programming languages.
Some popular examples of InterCapping are:
- Apple products: iPhone, iCloud, iPod, iPad
- Microsoft: PowerPoint
- DryIce: The term “Dry ice” is trademarked by the DryIce Corporation of America. However, it many countries it is used as a generic phrase to mean solidified carbon dioxide.
