TIROS-1 satellite transmits the first TV picture from space

The very first pictures from space were transmitted by the TIROS-1 satellite on 1^st April 1960. The satellite was launched into a lower earth orbit by a Thor Able rocket and carried two 15cm long television cameras – one with a wide-angle lens and the other with a telephoto lens.
