First Rubik’s Cube World Championship was held in Budapest, Hungary on 5th June 1982. Minh Thai won the contest by solving the cube in 22.95 seconds.
The cube was invented by Ernő Rubik in 1974 to teach spacial relationship to students. The popularity of the cube rose exponentially when it was introduced globally as a “toy” in 1979-80.
To commemorate the Rubik’s Cube World Championship, the Hungarian government released a stamp.
