The discovery of Vulcan was announced in Paris, France on 2nd January 1860 at the meeting of the French Academy of Sciences. Vulcan is supposed to be a small planet that orbits between Mercury and the Sun. It was first hypothesised by French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier to explain peculiarities of Mercury’s orbit. However, even after extensive search such as planet hasn’t been found.
