American actress and co-founder of Beginner Books with Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and Helen Palmer Geisel. She compiled the list of 379 words needed for basic vocabulary for children and Dr. Seuss used 200 words from the list to write The Cat in the Hat, the first of the Beginners Books.
