Mario character made his first appearance in Nintendo’s Donkey Kong video game on 9th July 1981. He was then simply referred to as “Jumpman” because he would jump over barrels. Also, in the original game, Jumpman was a carpenter and not a plumber!
The Mario character later became Nintendo’s mascot.
