Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon), the first science fiction film, was released in France on 1st September 1902. It is a silent black & white film directed by Georges Méliès and runs for about 16 minutes when played at 14 frames per second. The movie features the iconic shot of the capsule (shot from a cannon) landing on the moon’s eye.
