13 October, 1983

The first cellular network in the US was launched by Ameritech Mobile Communications (now AT&T) on 13th October 1983. The call service was available in Chicago.

FYI, the first call from a cellular phone was made by Martin Cooper on 3rd April 1973 via Motorola’s DynaTAC prototype.
