On 22nd December 1891, Max Wolf discovered 323 Brucia, the first asteroid to be discovered using photography. Wolf was a pioneer of astrophotography, who went on to discover more than 200 asteroids using this technique.
Less than a year later, astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard, discovered D/1892 T1, the first comet using photography.
