Elias Howe receives patent for sewing machine

On 10^th September 1846, Elias Howe received a patent for the sewing machine. Though he got the patent, finding investors proved extremely difficult. In the meanwhile, several people including Isaac Singer had started to copy his machine and profit from it. After almost a decade, Howe was able to receive huge royalties from Singer and others for his invention.
