Bernhard Schmidt Birthday

German optician known for inventing the Schmidt camera which corrects optical errors of spherical aberration, coma and astigmatism. The technology developed by Schmidt has been a boon for astronomical research and is used on Samuel Oschin telescope, the UK Schmidt Telescope and the Kepler spacecraft exoplanet finder.
