Soviet mathematician and computer scientist known for the Gauss-Kronrod quadrature formula and his contributions to the fields of theoretical physics and economics. Later in life, Kronrod gave his fortune and dedicated himself to the care of terminal cancer patients.
Kronrod should be remembered for his great contributions to the theory of functions of two variables from the set theoretic viewpoint. Also, he was a co-creator of a magnet mathematical High School (school #7) in Moscow where students were required to provide proofs for deep theorems in set theory and Mathematical Analysis,. Some of the students solved heretofore unknown and long standing mathematical
problems while still in the High School #7. Kronrod was also a very kind, friendly man quite a rare bird.
