Stephen Hales died on 4 January, 1761

English clergyman known for his contributions to several fields of science including botany, chemistry and physiology. He also invented various devices including a ventilator and a pneumatic trough. His most famous invention was, however, the forceps which he used to remove gall stones. Hales was the first person to measure blood pressure.
