The Tunguska event occurred on 30th June 1908. A huge explosion occurred in the Eastern Siberian Taiga close to the Stony Tunguska River in Russia. It flattened about 2,000 km2 area of forest. Since no impact crater was ever found, it is assumed that the explosion took place mid-air.
