The Wright brothers attempted their first flight of the Wright Flyer on 14th December 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
Three days later, on the 17th, Orville and Wilbur Wright flew their flying machine for 12 seconds which is universally regarded as the first powered flight.
On 22 May 1906, the Wright brothers were granted a patent for their flying machine (U.S. patent number 821,393).
