Wow! signal received by SETI

The "Wow!" signal received by The Big Ear, the radio telescope used by SETI.

15 August, 1977

The “Wow! signal” was received on 15th August 1977 by The Big Ear, a radio telescope operated by Ohio State University and, at that time, used for the SETI project. Discovered by astronomer Jerry R. Ehman, the signal lasted 72-seconds and came from the constellation Sagittarius. The name of the signal comes from “Wow!” circled by Ehman around the alphanumeric sequence, 6EQUJ65, on the printout.
