German physicist and winner of the 1901 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering X-rays. X-rays changed several fields most notably medicine.
Röntgen’s contribution to science was so important that the day X-rays were discovered – 8th November (1895) – is observed as the International Day of Radiology. Soon after discovery, the physicist published a paper on X-rays.
