Werner Arber was born on 3 June, 1929

Swiss microbiologist and geneticist famous for discovering the first restriction endonuclease, HindII, an enzyme that cuts DNA. This laid the foundation for recombinant DNA technology. For his work, Arber was awarded the 1978 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine with Hamilton Smith and Daniel Nathans.
