Walter H. Schottky died on 4 March, 1976

German physicist known for his significant contributions to the fields of semiconductors and developing the theory of electron and ion emission phenomena. Among his several inventions were the screen-grid vacuum tube, the pentode and the ribbon microphone and ribbon loudspeaker (the latter two in collaboration with Erwin Gerlach). The Schottky effect, Schottky barrier, Schottky contact and Schottky anomaly were all products of his research.
