American biologist specialising in genetics and embryology who won the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the role of chromosomes in heredity. Morgan made several important contributions to the field of genetics; for example, establishing Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) as a model organism and determining linkage in genes.
