Tartan Day is celebrated in the Americas on the 6th of April. It was on this date in 1320 that the Declaration of Arbroath was signed.

The day is marked by parades and events of Scottish themes – especially, the wearing of tartan, bagpipes and Highland dancing.

The Americas have a substantial number of people who claim Scottish decent. For instance, in the United States, there are over 6 million people and in Argentina, there are round 100,000. An estimated 4.7 million Canadians are of Scottish descent.

In native Scotland, the first Tartan Day festival was established in 2004.

The other International Tartan Day is celebrated primarily in Australia.
