Steve was adopted immediately after birth by Paul and Clara Jobs and brought up in California. His real parents – father Abdulfattah “John” Jandali of Syrian decent and mother Joanne Carole Schieble – separated soon after his birth.
Steve Jobs is known not just for Apple but for two other companies as well. After resigning from Apple in 1985, Jobs founded NeXT Computers which made expensive high-end computers. A couple of these were used by Sir Tim Berners-Lee to create the World Wide Web at CERN. The second is Pixar, a firm to which Jobs provided $10 million funding. Several blockbuster and Academy Award winning movies have come out of Pixar including Toy Story (and the sequels Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3), Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up etc.
Ed Krol's book, "The Whole Internet User's Guide & Catalog", was probably the first popular book about the new medium. It was published in 1992 and selected by the New York Public Library as one of the most significant books of the 20th century. [more...]
