The development of photosensitive glass was announced on 1st June 1947. It had actually been invented 10 years before by Dr. Donald Stookey of the Corning Glass Works.
In 1950, Dr. Stookey patented his invention with gold microscopic particles (U.S. Pat. No. 2,515,937 and U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,515,943).
