American engineer who in 1927 invented the first automatic machine for slicing bread. The machine was installed at the Chillicothe Baking Company, in Chillicothe, Missouri in 1928. And, coincidentally , the first sliced bread was sold on 7 July 1928, the 48th birthday of the inventor.
