On 7th December 1999, Napster, Inc. was sued by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) who alleged copyright infringement. Because of the lawsuit, the peer-to-peer had a surge in popularity for a little while, but was soon shut down soon after. Napster was developed by Shawn Fanning, John Fanning and Sean Parker.
