American astronomer and Caltech professor best known for discovering several trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) including the dwarf planet Eris and 90377 Sedna. He is most famous for his involvement in downgrading Pluto to a dwarf planet status and has authored a book on the subject, How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming.
