Mars Global Surveyor reaches Mars

NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor reached the planet on 11^th September 1997. It was was launched on 7^th November 1996 from Cape Canaveral. The probe is best remember for photos that show gullies and ridges, based on which some scientists hypothesised the presence of water on the Mars.
